Lotos CT520D Specifications
The CT520 is 17” long, 8” wide, and 11” high; and weighs 32 pounds.
It is categorized as a 50Amp Air Plasma Cutter with a cutting performance of ½” maximum ideal thickness and ¾” maximum severance thickness.
It runs on a voltage of 110/220V 50/60Hz, amperage of 50A for cutting, and 200A for welding.
It uses clean, dry, oil-free air for cutting, and clean, dry, oil-free argon gas for TIG welding.
Its flow rate is 3.6scfm @ 65psi, 80L/min for cutting, and 2-5 L/M for TIG welding.
Its output current for DC TIG is 10-200 A @ 220 V & 10-150 A @ 110 V, while for DC Stick/MMA, its output current is 10-200 A @ 220 V & 10-150 A @ 110 V.
Lotos CT520D Key Features
The Lotos CT520D is a 3-in-1 plasma cutter that allows you to cut and weld various materials such as stainless steel, mild steel, copper, alloy steel, aluminum, and other metal materials.
The plasma cutter can cut various materials with excellent precision, the TIG welder boasts of advanced features such as HF arc start torch and foot clutch welding heat control, and the stick welder has deep welding capabilities for welding beautiful shapes.
Easy to Use
You can easily switch between the DC stick welder and the DC TIG welder so you can concentrate on the job at hand instead of constantly checking on the machine.
The CT520D also features an automatic voltage and frequency adjustment, which allows the machine to run directly on 110 V 50/60 Hz power, or on 220 V 50/60 Hz using a pigtail.
You need not worry about changing frequency or voltage if you are going to use it in different job sites and situations. It can also be used with different types of acid or basic electrodes.
Light-Weight and Portable
At 38.5 lbs., the CT520D is one of Lotos’ lightest units among its plasma cutter models, making it extremely portable.
The CT520D uses non-hazardous compressed air, which is considered environment-friendly as it releases less harmful gases compared to an oxyhydrogen plasma cutter.
Because this is an air-based product, the CT520D is cheaper compared to other plasma cutters and oil-based machines. It also requires less maintenance and cleaning, which reduces costs even further.
What’s In The Box
Aside from the machine, the box also includes the power supply, cutting torch, TIG torch, stick/MMA welder torch, consumables, ground clamp, air filter, air regulator, argon regulator, and connections.
Lotos CT520D Pros and Cons
The Lotos CT520D employs the latest Lotos Technology with the IGBT/MOSFET-based high-frequency inverter technology and PWM or pulse width modulation designed to provide a constant and accurate current to the cutting surface, giving users smooth and clean cuts on different materials with minimal heat and metal distortion.
Another noteworthy feature of the CT520D is that it is built with high-end components manufactured by Sanyo, TI, and Toshiba. You would rarely find an inexpensive plasma cutter built from such high-quality made materials.
Aside from the amazing features previously mentioned, the CT520D is relatively easy and quick to set up. You just have to connect the installed NPT 1/4” industry type D plug, and air filter regulator to your air compressor, and you are good to go.
Its multiple cutting capabilities, combined with its light weight and compact size and affordable price tag, make this machine one of the best plasma cutters in the market today.
It also has a 30-day money-back guarantee and a limited 1-year warranty.
However, there are a few issues going against the CT520D.
It is excellent that it can run directly on 110 V 50/60 Hz power or 220 V 50/60 Hz with a pigtail. The trouble is, the pigtail is not included. You have to buy it separately.
It also does not come with an amperage control foot pedal. You also have to buy it separately. It is wise, though, to purchase one as it will make working with it easier.
Another drawback is the lack of a pilot arc, which causes the CT520D to exhaust its consumables reasonably quickly. It is a good idea to stock up on these consumables so you will not run out in the middle of a job. Its compatible consumables are the LCS22 or LCS3. It is not compatible with the Lotos LCON20, LCON40, or LCON90 or any other third-party consumable set.
Although the unit is light and easy to transport, the plasma and power cords are quite short, which can limit your mobility while working. The reason for this “short”coming may be that it was initially designed for home use or small welding job sites only.
These shortcomings, however, do not distract from the fact that using the Lotos CT520D is a satisfying experience. It is an inexpensive plasma cutter, TIG, and stick welder rolled into one that can compete side by side with some pricier models. Its flaws are manageable and can quickly be overshadowed by the exceptional performance and quality the CT520D offers.
Many online customer reviews gave it a 5-star rating on ease of use, value for money, technical support, and thickness. Many have also expressed their willingness to recommend the CT520D to others.
If you are looking for a machine that is powerful, portable, and durable, all in a single unit, you can’t go wrong with the Lotos CT520D.
